Greetings...
There are thousands of things you can practice to improve your playing. Every teacher has his or her favorite theories. I happen to think pattern memorization and repetition, commonly known as finger exercises, are a great way to build chops.

Here is a cool finger exercise that utilizes "Thirds" and "Triplets". Many of my past students will recognize this little beauty as " Finger Ex #4". The rhythm is in eighth note triplets, which means three notes per beat. It is a good idea to alternate your picking to get this up to speed. Play it as fast as you want, but when it comes to finger exercises, the object is to build speed, dexterity and accuracy. Set your metronome to a tempo that is manageable for you to play this cleanly. After you are comfortable at that speed, kick it up a notch and another and another until you frighten people.

This is written in "C" Major but try applying the same "Pattern Idea" to all the modes.

See Ya...Kevin
