Here is a simple fingerstyle arrangement of an old favorite using the bass line to connect the chords. This is a technique frequently used in most acoustic guitar styles.

In this arrangement (intended as an accompaniment), the root note of each chord is sounded first, followed by an arpeggio. This is followed by the connecting notes, using either scale tones or chord tones. As this tune is in the key of A minor, the A natural minor scale is primarily used. However, as is often done in minor tunes, the melodic minor can be used to connect the V-i chords (in this case, E- Am).

There are many variations that can be used on chord progressions like this. Feel free to experiment and make it your own. - Tony Beaulaurier
