“Spanish
Study” is a simplified excerpt from the Isaac Albeniz piece “Leyenda”.
This is a famous Spanish guitar piece with a flamenco feel to it. Measures 1-16 are played with strict p-m (thumb-middle) alternation of right hand fingers. The melody is in the bass and should be given emphasis over the accompaniment, which is the open high E string. In Measures 17-25, the accompaniment is changed by adding the 3rd string A note and changing the rhythm from 8th notes into triplets (three even notes per beat). The triplets are played with a strict p-i-m. The melody remains the same as in measures 1-8. The 3rd string A note should be fretted by the 2nd (middle) finger on the left hand, and it needs to remain in place for the duration of the piece. Left hand fingerings are given throughout, and should be followed exactly. Make sure the tempo you select allows for both the 8th note section and the triplet section to be played smoothly. Do not slow down the triplet section tempo from the 8th note section tempo. Enjoy yourself! Click here to go back. |
