The Style Of Randy Rhoads
Welcome to the Third Trevor Larkin lesson page. When most people think of Randy Rhodes, blistering neo-classical solos and ridiculous heavy metal riffing come to mind. However, what a lot of guitarists don’t realize is that Rhodes was a dedicated student of the classical guitar and spent many long hours practicing famous pieces of repertoire (Bach was a favorite, I’ve been told). His classical influences surface in several Ozzy Osbourne tunes, such as “Diary of a Madman.” Here’s a little finger picking exercise I wrote that’s very much in the style of “Diary of a Madman.” It sounds like something Randy Rhodes himself might very well have written. This tune sounds great using a pick as well, so feel free to use either your pick or fingers. Enjoy! Click here to go back. |
